Film Friday: Where the Wild Things Are

This week I re-watched Where the Wild Things Are. I love the beautiful visuals and the characters, although for some reason the plot never manages to fully hold my attention.

The other week I was very excited to hear I'd won Hannah from the lovely Seeds & Stitches' giveaway; my prize was a copy of the new Amelia's book, Amelia's Compendium of Fashion Illustration and an old copy of the magazine. The book was packaged so beautifully by Hannah I just had to share a photo. The book is fantastic and really inspiring if you're interested in illustration as there's lots of interviews with some brilliant artists. It's a shame the magazine is no longer in production but there are tons of great articles on the website here.

Moving Weekend

I thought I'd share some photos from my moving weekend. It was really hard work but our new flat, in an old Convent is so lovely it was all worth the aching muscles!

As the building was once a convent we have this amazing stained-glass window in our bedroom..





Tom found this old oil lamp in a vintage shop and with added fairy lights it makes our living room a lot cosier (out of the window you can just about see the nearby Cathedral!)

Movie Monday: Turner & Hooch

The house move went well this weekend and I am now settling into living in a flat in an ex-Convent, pictures to come soon! However as I didn't post up a film on Friday I thought I'd go with this one... we were in the mood to watch a good old 80s film and well, you can't beat a bit of early Tom Hanks, right? Right!? ha.

Crimson Glow

Last weekend I dyed my hair a shade of red, which reminded me of how I always wanted my hair the same colour as Angela from My So-Called Life. Did anyone else envy her hair growing up? (On a side note, it kind of worries me how different Claire Danes looks these days!)

After Siobhan posted about joining Pinterest, I thought I'd give it a try as well. It's basically an online pinboard for storing all of your favourite images in different categories. Moving day is nearly here (Friday!) so I thought I'd share a few of my favourite "home" images. There seems to be a lot of suitcases, typewriters, cameras.. and the colour turquoise!

To celebrate having 200 followers (I'm amazed, yay!) and thank you lovely people for reading my blog I decided I want to make one of you a special something. In this post I said I wanted to try making a hand drawn paper doll, so I thought it'd be nice to make one for one of you. NB... I'm moving house soon so it may take a couple of weeks for it to be completed. Also it's an experiment as I haven't made one before.. so we shall see how it turns out!!

Film Friday: Black Swan

I finally got round to watching Black Swan this week, and it was really good. However, I wasn't quite prepared for some of the more gory moments! Not wanting to give too much away, it's best to bear in mind Aronofsky's other work before going to see the film!


When I was a kid my Nan often took me to see the ballet, and we saw Swan Lake a few times. Although I can't remember much of the actual ballet, (I'm not sure it was the most exciting night out for a child!) the music really stuck with me and watching this film really brought back Tchaikovsky's musical accompanyment, which I still really enjoy. I think a lot of older members of the audience were a bit shocked that the film wasn't just a nice ballet film - I'm not sure my grandma would really enjoy it! But it was a great film and Natalie Portman always impresses me, she's a very talented actress indeed.

Save Our Libraries event

Some of you UK readers may know about the plight of many of our libraries, so I thought I'd share this music event in London, to help support them. Am really tempted to go as seeing Jens Lekman live a few years ago was one of the best gigs I've been to! Tickets are on sale soon, and there's more info here.

What I Wore Today

.. or rather what I wore on Monday! It was such a windy day. This is the first time I've painted anything in years, and I quite enjoyed it!
